for potential dangers or threats to your safety.
Plan Ahead
- Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return.
- Be aware of your surroundings and be alert to possible danger.
- Be suspicious of behavior or activities that make you uncomfortable and avoid secluded places.
- Trust your instincts. If something appears troublesome, leave the area and contact the police.
When Walking
- Stick to well-lit areas and avoid alleys, bushes, or hidden entryways.
- Stay aware鈥攎inimize distractions like loud music or phone conversations. Keep your head up and scan your surroundings regularly.
- Let someone know your plans: where you鈥檙e going and when you鈥檒l be back.
- If a driver asks for directions, keep your distance from the vehicle. Only accept rides from people you know and trust.
- If a car seems to be following you, change direction and head toward a safe location. Once safe, call law enforcement.

Traveling in Your Car
- Avoid isolated roads and shortcuts.
- If a car is following you, turn to the nearest open business, police or fire station.
- Lock your vehicle.
- Have your keys ready when you approach your vehicle and check inside before entering.
