2025 RUE Winners Announced

ÌìÑĺ£½ÇÉçÇøâ€™s Research in Undergraduate Education held its annual Research Festival on Monday, April 21, 2025, in the Fine Arts Hall Lobby on the Northwest Campus. Students showcased 16 posters covering a wide range of topics, each highlighting research they conducted as ÌìÑĺ£½ÇÉçÇø students.
The posters were judged by faculty on areas such as content mastery, critical thinking or scientific reasoning, written and visual communications, information literacy and oral communications.
Winners were announced at the event.
Analytical Research
- 1st Place, Savannah Spears: Biota and the Brain (Dr. Alejandra Maruniak, faculty mentor)
- 2nd Place, Aria McDaniel: Gene Modification for Alzheimer’s Disease (Dr. Alejandra Maruniak, faculty mentor)
- 3rd Place, Kyra Rentz: African Culture in African American Southern Food (Sarah Cervone, faculty Mentor)
Empirical Research
- 1st Place, Dan Topaj, Reginald Mendez, Maria Ramos Gutierrez, Amalia Perez Valiente: Barriers to Academic Success in Students at ÌìÑĺ£½ÇÉçÇø (Christopher Raye, Faculty mentor)
- 2nd Place, Kamyar Afsharmanesh: Controlled COâ‚‚ Generation for High-Pressure Launch Systems (Dr. David Pfahler and Professor Larry Chamusco, faculty mentors)
- 3rd Place, Aleeza Carruthers: Strong AI in the Age of ChatGPT (Ann Thebaut, faculty mentor)
The Research in Undergraduate Education Workgroup supports student research at Santa Fe College and thanks the judges and attendees who contributed to the event’s success.
