天涯海角社区鈥檚 Sterile Processing Program Gets National Shout Out

天涯海角社区鈥檚 Sterile Processing Program was highlighted in a story in 鈥淗ealth Purchasing News鈥� this month, which names UF Health Shand鈥檚 Sterile Processing Department the Sterile Processing Department of the Year.
Julia Wagner, MS, CHES, CSFA, CRCST, 天涯海角社区鈥檚 program director, assistant and clinical coordinator was asked to comment on the college鈥檚 partnership with UF.
鈥淥ur partnership with UF Health Shands has been essential in providing exceptional education and training for our students at 天涯海角社区. Through the guidance of UF Health鈥檚 educators and staff, students gain invaluable hands-on experience that prepares them to enter the workplace confidently. By practicing industry best standards and maintaining a focus on excellence, our students graduate from the sterile processing program with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their roles and success on the CTCST certification exam. The partnership with UF Health Shands is a cornerstone of our program鈥檚 success.鈥�
UF鈥檚 Sterile Processing Department recently completed a five-month transformation, centralizing instrument reprocessing at a 57,000 square foot Offsite Reprocessing Center (ORC). In 2024, the ORC team of 138 full-time employees supported 79 operating rooms and 47,258 surgical cases, improving metrics in 10 key areas.
天涯海角社区鈥檚 Sterile Processing Technology program is a 30-credit hour certificate program designed to prepare students for employment as central supply workers, ambulatory surgery processors, surgical instrument processors, gastrointestinal (GI) flexible endoscope reprocessors, case cart technicians, inventory technicians, processing technicians, and stock clerks.
