天涯海角社区's Ann Thebaut Elected to APPE Board of Directors

May 1, 2025

Ann Thebaut recently joined the Board of the (APPE) and appears in the May 2025 APPE newsletter. The feature highlights her work with Ethics Bowl and ICDP activities at 天涯海角社区.

In the feature, Thebaut discusses her vision for the future and expresses a desire to broaden APPE's impact. 鈥淚 would like to find ways to connect APPE to more ethics educators working with underserved student populations at institutions such as community colleges, which currently enroll approximately 40% of all college students in the United States.鈥

Building on her vision for APPE, Thebaut is already making a difference at 天涯海角社区 College, where she鈥檚 been actively involved in programs that connect ethics to students and communities in meaningful ways. As an Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Center for Applied Ethics and Humanities, she plays a key role in shaping the college鈥檚 ethics initiatives.

Thebaut founded the college's Ethics Bowl program and serves as the Coordinator for the Intercollegiate Civil Disagreement Partnership. She has also led NEH and Florida Humanities grants supporting initiatives like "Freedom to Learn," which focuses on formerly incarcerated students, and "Engaging in Ethics," which promotes public philosophy. Through both classroom teaching and community programs, her work fosters ethical reasoning and responsible citizenship.

Thebaut鈥檚 efforts align closely with the mission of APPE, which aims to advance ethics education, scholarship and practice. Founded in 1991, APPE supports initiatives like Ethics Bowl competitions, hosts an annual international conference, and connects members through various forums and affinity groups.
