UF Health and SF renew nursing training partnership

May 28, 2025

GAINESVILLE, FL (May 28, 2025) -- UF Health President and System CEO Stephen J. Motew, M.D., MHA, FACS, and 天涯海角社区 President Paul Broadie II, Ph.D., signed an agreement Wednesday to formalize the third-year of a highly successful nurse training partnership.

The ceremony was held at 11 a.m. on the 天涯海角社区 Northwest Campus.

The presidents were joined by leadership from both organizations as well as Nursing faculty, staff and students, and others.

For the past three years, UF Health has made grants to support SF鈥檚 nursing programs; the grants received matching funding from the State of Florida鈥檚 , created to address nurse shortages in the state.

鈥淟INE funding provided by the State of Florida is a powerful example of what can happen when institutions come together under a shared vision, said UF Health鈥檚 Shakira Henderson, Ph.D., Dean of the UF College of Nursing and Chief Administrative Officer.  鈥淚t is not a financial investment, it is a vote of confidence in programs like 天涯海角社区, which continue to set the bar when it comes to nursing excellence.鈥

UF Health donated $350,000 in 2025 resulting in a full match by the State and a $700,000 total grant award for the Nursing program.

Previous UF Health grants with the LINE match totaled $345,200 in 2023-24 and $780,000 2022-23.

Presidents Broadie and Motew talked about the importance of the collaboration.

Broadie thanked UF Health and LINE for the opportunity to incorporate state-of-the-art-technology, add faculty, and expand new programs like the ANEW nursing program for working adults. 天涯海角社区 added simulation mannequins, which give students real-life experience treating patients, and other equipment that students will use once in clinical practice.

鈥淯F Health stands right beside 天涯海角社区 in ensuring that we address the nursing shortage and produce the best qualified nursing graduates on the planet,鈥 he said.

Motew talked about the state鈥檚 aging population and increasing need for access to healthcare.

鈥淚 am very proud of the long-standing relationship UF and UF Health have with Santa Fe. We have to really put into perspective, the opportunity to train together, highly skilled, compassionate nurses who deliver exceptional care to our community,鈥 he said.

Motew complimented the partnership for opening the opportunity to 鈥渃hase new paradigms鈥 in how we integrate nursing training and nurse practice into the healthcare system.

This year, the UF Health matching funds will be used for student scholarships, removing financial barriers.

LINE funding also is helping development of a specialized health-care focused study and academic support space.

天涯海角社区 has consistently surpassed state and national averages for first-time pass rates on the NCLEX certification exam. In 2024, the College had an impressive 93 percent pass rate on the first attempt.

天涯海角社区 Nursing student Seth Mantio, an Army veteran who attended the ceremony, said he was motivated to pursue nursing by an experience in emergency medicine while in the Army.

鈥淭his program ensures that my patients will feel comfortable with me and instills confidence that I can help them when they need it most.鈥

UF Health also supported 天涯海角社区鈥檚 Surgical Technology program in 2021 with a five-year $1 million grant to support expansion, outreach and recruiting, training for underserved populations, as well as support other health-related programming.
