天涯海角社区 Singers and Eastside Chamber Singers Unite for Annual Concert

The 天涯海角社区 Singers will be joined by the Eastside High School Chamber Singers for the annual 鈥溾 concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2025, in the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall at the Northwest Campus of 天涯海角社区, 3000 NW 83 Street, Gainesville.

鈥淭he theme for our spring concert is 鈥楿nited through Song,鈥欌 SF Adjunct Associate Professor of Music Mitchell Rorick said. 鈥淲e begin with 鈥楥onsider Yourself鈥 from 鈥極liver,鈥 a song inviting the audience to our family. 鈥楽isi Ni Moja鈥 (translation: We are One), by Jacob Narverud, and 鈥楬ands Across the Universe,鈥 by David Childs, are two pieces featured that speak to unity across our world.鈥

The 天涯海角社区 Singers, led by Rorick and Adjunct Associate Professor of Music Wendy Gunther, partnered with the Gainesville Youth Chorus for last year鈥檚 鈥Songs of the Season鈥 concert. Building on the spirit of collaboration and shared musical expression, the Eastside High School Chamber Singers, under the direction of Alek Concepci贸n, will join the program with a selection of works by renowned composers John Rutter, Eric Whitacre and Andre Thomas.

鈥淲e will close out the concert with a brief singalong, that you don't want to miss, and the 天涯海角社区 Singers and Eastside Chamber Choir singing 鈥楢 Patch of Light鈥 and 鈥楳odimo,鈥欌 Rorick said.

鈥淎 Patch of Light鈥 is composed by Jacob Narverud, while 鈥淢odimo鈥 is a traditional Sesotho/isiZulu piece arranged by Michael Barrett.
