Public Notice – Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR)

September 11, 2025
ÌìÑĺ£½ÇÉçÇø is considering applying for funding through the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR), part of the Rebuild Florida 2023 and 2024 Storms Infrastructure Repair Program. This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by FloridaCommerce. FloridaCommerce is making available $400 million in CDBG-DR funding for communities impacted by Hurricanes Idalia, Debby, Helene, Milton and/or the 2024 North Florida tornadoes.
The College intends to submit an application and request approximately $5.3 million in grant funds in support of the following project:
Gymnasium Facility Hardening (Estimated Cost: $5.3 million)
The ÌìÑĺ£½ÇÉçÇø Gymnasium located in Gainesville, Florida, was constructed in 1979 and serves as a critical staging area for the Florida National Guard during post-hurricane recovery efforts. The facility has significant infrastructure needs. Proposed improvements include:
- Replacement of the existing roof, which has exceeded its useful life
- Installation of a new chiller and boiler system
- Addition of a back-up generator to ensure continued operation during emergencies
- Renovation of restrooms to improve accessibility and update outdated equipment
These enhancements will ensure the Gymnasium remains a resilient and reliable facility for both the College and for emergency personnel during future disaster response and recovery efforts. Once completed, the improvements would allow the Gymnasium to function as a stand-alone operating facility in the event of an emergency and power outages at the College.
