Players Choice Awards Highlight Heart, Hustle and Spirit

天涯海角社区 honored its student-athletes, coaches and staff during the annual Players Choice Awards on Monday night at Hotel Indigo in Gainesville. The event, hosted by the Athletic Department, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), college officials, and the family of former Athletic Director Kenny Drost, recognized excellence on and off the field.

The evening opened with special staff awards. Deigh Scroggie, Administrative Assistant, received the Sunny Day Award for her uplifting attitude and daily positivity. Academic Advisor Kimberly Oliver earned the Starfish Make a Difference Honor for her personalized support of student-athletes, reflecting the spirit of making a difference one person at a time.

Head Baseball Coach Johnny Wiggs was celebrated for reaching 600 career wins at SF and more than 800 overall. He will be inducted into the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame this May in Grand Junction, Colorado.

For the first time, SAAC presented its own awards. Predrag Panisic received the SUNSHINE Award for his impactful community service. Kelsey Harper earned the PERSEVERANCE Award for her resilience and leadership through adversity. Griffin Sorrow was named SAAC MVP for his outstanding dedication and teamwork.

Dr. Portia Taylor and Dr. Curtis Jefferson presented academic awards to top student-athletes from each team:

  • Softball: Ariel Obregon
  • Baseball: Griffin Sorrow
  • Men鈥檚 Basketball: Cole Gullikson
  • Women鈥檚 Basketball: Aissa Diallo
  • Volleyball: Maria Contreras

The night concluded with the prestigious Kenny Drost Leadership Awards. Karris Rhine received the Female Leader of the Year honor for her energy, positivity and team leadership. Zack Dejesus, SAAC President, was named Male Leader of the Year for his steady, servant-focused leadership and commitment to his peers.
