天涯海角社区 Receives Grant for Third Habitat House

Plum Creek Foundation awarded Alachua Habitat for Humanity a grant in the amount of $10,000 toward construction of the 天涯海角社区 III Habitat for Humanity home Wednesday. The 天涯海角社区 III will be built starting in September at 天涯海角社区's Charles R. Perry Construction Institute.
This will be the third Habitat for Humanity home built on the 天涯海角社区 Campus. The house will be constructed by the 天涯海角社区 Building Construction Management Technology Classes and other groups of Student Builders, Habitat Volunteers, and Apprenticeship Students. The house will be built indoors in two sections. When complete, each be lifted by a crane onto a trailer and transported to the permanent home site, then lifted by a crane onto the foundation.
During a recent visit to 天涯海角社区, FDOE Chancellor Rod Duckworth mentioned this program as being a national model for cooperation between education and business.
"It's a great example of what education should look like," Duckworth said. "It's win win win."
