Markey Headlines Group of 11 Saints Named All-MFC

Gainesville, FL – Sophomore pitcher Brad Markey had one of the most successful seasons on the mound in the history of the ÌìÑĺ£½ÇÉçÇø baseball program and for his efforts was named the Mid-Florida Conference Pitcher of the Year and to the All-MFC First Team.

Markey won 10 of his 13 starts and finished with a record of 10-3, one short of the all-time single season wins mark set last season by Malcolm Clapsaddle. Four of his wins were of the complete game variety. He currently has a 1.45 ERA and struck out 62 batters in 87 innings pitched with only nine walks and opposing hitters managed just a .223 average against him.

Joining Markey on the MFC First Team are second baseman Shane Kennedy who finished his sophomore campaign with a .381 average, led SF in hits (61), triples (8), homeruns (8), RBI (40) and was 20-for-21 stealing bases. Freshman outfielder Mallex Smith (.387, 8 2B, 7 3B, 17 RBI, 30 steals); freshman infielder/pitcher Caleb Denmark (.329, 5 2B, 4 HR, 33 RBI and 0.90 ERA, 2-0, 4 saves); sophomore catcher Tim Remes (.337, 4 HR, 30 RBI) and sophomore pitcher Ryan Yarbrough (8-1, 2.15 ERA, 59 K's).

Freshman shortstop Jacob Tillotson was named the MFC Defensive Player of the Year and an All-MFC Second Team honoree. He committed just eight errors in 205 chances, good for a .961 fielding percentage. Offensively he hit .284 with nine doubles, two triples, a homerun and 21 RBI with six steals.

Rounding out the Second Team: sophomore outfielder Drew Doty (.380, 12 2B, 2 HR, 34 RBI); sophomore outfielder Trey Griffin (.306, 14 2B, 3 HR, 34 RBI); freshman designated hitter/catcher AJ Mazzurco (.351, 8 2B, 21 RBI, .455 OBP) and freshman pitcher JT Simpson (6-2, 1.85 ERA, 36 K's).

Coach Johnny Wiggs took home his fourth straight Mid-Florida Conference Coach of the Year award and fifth overall in his six seasons at ÌìÑĺ£½ÇÉçÇø.
