Saints Blast 10 Homeruns, Score 34 Runs in Double Header Sweep of SF

SAINTS BLAST TEN HOMERUNS IN DOUBLE HEADER SWEEP OF SOUTH FLORIDA CC, 11-0 AND 23-4

Avon Park, FL – The NJCAA #23 ÌìÑĺ£½ÇÉçÇø (6-1-1) put up a combined 34 runs on 31 hits and 10 homeruns in a 14 inning double header sweep of South Florida CC in Avon Park on Saturday afternoon, improving their streak of consecutive games with double digit runs to five.

Freshman Andrew Grifol had a day to remember as he pitched a scoreless inning in game one and hit three homeruns, including a grand slam in game two, tallying nine RBI. Jay Laurienzo hit a homerun in each game, giving him one in each of the last three games.

ÌìÑĺ£½ÇÉçÇø hit three homeruns in game one and seven in game two. They rolled up 15 total extra base hits on the afternoon.

Chris Lee (1-1) pitched the first five innings of game one, allowing only two hits. Steven Ragans and Grifol finished off the seven inning shutout with one scoreless inning each.

TJ Spina was 2-for-3 in game one with a three run homerun and four RBI, Jay Laurienzo was 2-for-5 with three RBI and homered for the second consecutive day, Tim Remes had the other Saints homerun and finished 1-for-2 with three RBI. Austin Lawrence was 3-for-5 and Drew Doty was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

SF put game two away early on with a nine run second inning on eight hits and three homeruns. They tacked on six more in the fifth on a two run homerun by Zach Taylor and a grand slam by Grifol.

ÌìÑĺ£½ÇÉçÇø put 20 hits on the board in game two with 11 of them for extra bases. Grifol led the rout by going 4-for-5 with a double, a two run HR, a three run HR and a grand slam. Cory Elasik also went 4-for-5 and added a grand slam of his own totaling four RBI on the game. Not wanting to be left out of the action, Drew Doty added a two run homer, his second on the season.

Austin Lawrence finished game two 3-for-5, Garrett Greenwell was 2-for-5, Turner 2-for-4 and Nathan Bandy 2-for-4.

Alec Asher (1-0) picked up his first win of the season with four shutout innings. Ryan Yarbrough pitched one inning, surrendering four runs on three hits, Kyle Rowe struck out two in a scoreless inning of work and Antwan Brown closed the game out with a scoreless seventh.

The Saints are now hitting .351 as a team with 14 homeruns through eight games and are averaging nearly 10 runs per contest. They have a team ERA of 2.39.

ÌìÑĺ£½ÇÉçÇø returns home to host Hillsborough CC on Monday, February 7 at 3:00 pm.
