STEFFI SORENSEN SIGNS PRO CONTRACT IN FRANCE
Gainesville, FL 鈥 Former 天涯海角社区 and University of Florida women鈥檚 basketball standout Steffi Sorensen has signed a professional contract to play in France for Union Hainaut Basketball-Saint Amand. She credits 天涯海角社区 and Coach Chanda Stebbins for leading by example and helping to set her on the path to professional basketball.
鈥淚 always considered Coach Stebbins a do it all yourself kind of woman. She coaches, teaches, mentors, educates, recruits and does everything she can to help you to succeed and excel after your time at SF on and off the court,鈥 said Sorensen. 鈥淚 give her a lot of credit because there are very few people in this world who do what she does on a daily basis. I owe her a lot because she helped pave the way for my career that is today.鈥
An All-State and All-Conference performer in 2007-08 for 天涯海角社区, Sorensen averaged 14.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.2 three pointers per game, helping lead 天涯海角社区 to the State Tournament. She credits 天涯海角社区 and Coach Chanda Stebbins for leading by example and helping to set her on the path to professional basketball.
In her two seasons at the University of Florida (2008-10), Sorensen finished with the highest three point percentage in school history (37.3%, 161-of-432), second most three pointers in a season (83) and she scored in double figures 32 times.
鈥淚 always dreamed of playing professionally and never thought that dream could actually turn into a reality until my opportunity at Florida provided the exposure and high level of play I always desired,鈥 said Sorensen. 鈥淭o make basketball a profession rather than just something I did during school is a dream come true. I feel blessed for the opportunity I have been given especially with the team I am currently with in France. I love the game of basketball and to be surrounded by professionals who share that same desire to get better every day is a wonderful experience.鈥
