Course Description
This 44-hour course is designed to teach officers the basic knowledge, tactics and fundamentals associated with instructing firearms. The end goal is to train the new instructors to teach the CMS Criminal Justice Firearms course, which is part of the CMS Basic Recruit Training Program. Instructor students must possess a General Instructor Certification or be eligible for and apply for the General Instructor Certification at the same time as the High-Liability Instructor Certification. This course is eligible for mandatory retraining hours only.

Equipment
FIREARM RANGE SAFETY GEAR IS MANDATORY: Please bring eye protection, hearing protection, ballistic vest, hat and flashlight (NOT a gun- mounted light). Please also bring your department sidearm (40 or 9mm), three magazines with duty belt, magazine pouches and holster. No optics/red dot will be permitted to be utilized on handguns. No RED SHIRTS or RED HATS!

Dress Policy
Casual/business casual clothing is recommended. Flip flops, shorts, tank tops and/or offensive T-shirts are unacceptable attire. Law enforcement personnel not in uniform that are carrying exposed firearms must prominently display agency ID and/or badge at all times while on college property.

Cost
No cost to officers in Region IV. Priority is given to officers in Alachua and Bradford Counties. All other officers will be waitlisted and added to the roster as space permits.

- Seating is limited to 18
- Forms must be submitted prior to 10/08/2025
